trains

lolling railroad train limp and steamless

a memory for men with rusted oil cans

and bandannas tied around Autumn moons

lowered over Kansas when the buffalo

snorted and stomped a code recorded

by universe scientists who regrettably

agreed there was no intelligent life

except for bison apparently waiting

to board a no longer running

chunk of iron divided into dashes.
